Baldoyle
The Baldoyle Sector 1 and 2 had stalled during the recession, Doyle + O’Troithigh Landscape Architecture Ltd were appointed to the project as part of a new design team, tasked with the job of agreeing compliance with Planning and overseeing the construction of the project.
Prior to the recession the site works had been underway but had been sub surface only, working with these restrictions and the grant of planning conditions we liaised with Fingal County Council to prepare a design for the public open space which would be acceptable to the local authority. The large courtyards were designed as garden spaces for the residents with the public open space being designed as local parks with a open nature allowing a variety of amenities to be undertaken.
The courtyard designs was in collaboration with the Project Engineers as they sat above the basement carpark, this required the basement ventilation and courtyard drainage to be assimilated into the landscape design of the courtyard.
The success of the scheme is seen in the maintenance and management of the courtyards and open space by the residents who quickly took ownership of these spaces and started to establish a community spirit and sense of place.
